What is a DC EV Charger?

‌DC EV charger‌ refers to a device that uses the DC charging mode to charge the power battery assembly of an electric vehicle. The DC charging mode is to directly charge the power battery assembly through the controllable DC power output by the charger, which has the characteristics of fast charging speed‌.

Working principle

The working principle of the DC charging device is to rectify the AC power of the power grid before inputting it into the vehicle. Specifically, the power energy of the power grid first enters the charging pile and then reaches the vehicle through the charging cable. Before the AC power enters the vehicle, the AC/DC rectifier inside the charging pile converts the AC power into DC power, and then adjusts the voltage through the DC/DC transformer to provide it to the power battery‌.

Types and specifications

The output power range of DC charging equipment is very wide, ranging from 20KW, 40KW, 60KW to 200KW, 250KW, 350KW, etc. As long as the input end (grid) and the output end (vehicle) support it, the charging power can be very large, so it is also called fast charging‌. In addition, there are different types of DC charging equipment, such as integrated, split, portable and mobile, etc.‌

Application scenarios

DC chargers are widely used in fast charging stations for electric vehicles, and are particularly suitable for scenarios that require rapid replenishment of power, such as long-distance driving, logistics transportation, etc. They can significantly shorten the charging time and improve the efficiency of vehicle use.
